Rights to Sexual Expression

Masturbation is a topic we may have received negative messages about as a teen or adult. The idea of masturbation is often spoken of in hushed tones and with a sense of shame.

But we’re here to assure you that masturbation is a normal part of life for everyone. In fact, it’s a good way to learn about your body.

Some people masturbate with their fingers, sex toys or other objects. Having a disability may make it challenging to masturbate due to limits in physical function, however with some creativity and problem solving you can find ways around these barriers.

If masturbation is something you want to explore but are not sure where to start or are having challenges, feel free to talk to your occupational therapist or a health care professional you trust and feel comfortable talking to.
