Accessible Sport & Recreation | Dean Dwyer Athletics & Cycling | Physical Activity & Wellness

In this episode of Underestimated Nancy meets with Dean Dwyer at his home to see his gym, learn about his home workout routine, and experience the joy of recreation. Dean Dywer sustained a life-changing injury as a teenager in a motorcycle accident. He spent three years in hospital, earned his high school diploma, and then tried accessible sports. He became a Paralympian in the 80s and 90s in cycling and athletics, wining multiple silver and gold medals. After retiring from sports, Dean had a full career selling cars for over 30 years, a career which perfected his skills as a greeter. (“If you don’t say hello, you don’t get the customer.”) He recently bought a handcycle and it became his recreation and a means to achieve his purpose in life, which is to greet strangers in parks and encourage them with his story.
