Today’s video features swimming and aquatic paraplegic exercise in the pool. Nancy shares her tips for transferring from wheelchair to pool deck when there isn’t a lift.
Did you know that swimming and other aquatic therapy exercise can be an amazing way for paraplegics and other people with spinal cord injuries to stay healthy? Water removes the effects of friction and gravity on the body. The result is that there is much less stress and pain on the joints and muscles. Aquatic exercise for people in a wheelchair can help to strengthen arms and legs, allowing the limbs to stretch and experience a full range of motion. The weight of the water in a swimming pool can also help with balance, much more safely and easily than on land.
