Today, we talk with Eyra Abraham about hearing loss advances in technology, new tech for people with hearing loss, and all about disability, work and entrepreneurship. Eyra is the founder of Lisnen, an app that leverages Artificial intelligence (AI) for social good to support d\/Deaf and hard of hearing gain situational awareness of critical sounds in their environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few years ago, Eyra slept through a fire drill in her condo building in Nova Scotia. She only found out a couple of days later when the property management company put letters in the mailbox explaining the situation and reprimanding those people who didn’t evacuate the building. That’s when Eyra realized how vulnerable she was in a situation where she wasn\u2019t wearing her hearing aids. She saw the need to better equip herself in situations like this. That’s when the journey of trying to find a solution began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her work as a founder of an AI tech company, consultant, and speaker, Eyra devotes her time to democratizing access to information and enabling greater participation from marginalized communities. Her mission is to advance technology, particularly AI, to positively impact people with disability to gain equal access at home, at work and in the community. As the founder of Lisnen, tech for people living with hearing loss, Eyra has been recognized as one of the top 100 Black Women to watch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The development of equipment and software to assist persons with hearing disabilities in navigating the environment is one of the most recent trends in artificial intelligence. Furthermore, advances in hearing equipment have allowed persons with limited hearing to concentrate on a single sound and amplify it rather than being overwhelmed by a multitude of faint noises while traversing the streets or attending a party. Auditory AI assistants are more advanced hearing aids that help find the ideal fit based on the cochlear implant of the user.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Modern AI technologies have transformed the lives of people who were experiencing hearing loss. AI performs many functions, including analyzing and adapting the information to create a personalized experience that works best for a user\u2019s own unique set of needs.
