Job Interview Tips: Weaknesses Question, Interview Advice for People with Disabilities

Today, we are discussing job interview tips for disabled people, answering the ‘what are your weaknesses’ question, and sharing interview advice for people with disabilities. Spinal Cord Injury Ontario’s Job Counselor Carmit is giving some tips on how to answer a tricky question during a job interview. One of the best ways to respond to the ‘what are your weaknesses’ question is to focus on self-improvement by mentioning details about the steps you have taken to master a skill or improve a particular weakness. For people with disabilities, this is a particularly tricky interview question to answer, and it’s challenging because most people tend to respond in a way that seems dishonest. But there are genuine and honest ways to answer in a way that is both strategic and effective. And because our weaknesses are tricky to discuss, we must be careful when providing specific examples. If you are truly qualified for the job, you want to avoid disqualifying yourself by making a bad impression with the interviewer. The key is to be prepared, positive and honest.
