Online Dating | Dating with a Disability | Spinal Cord Injury Awareness

Scott Wollin is a 35-year-old man living in Keswick, Ontario. He sustained a spinal cord injury 15 years ago in a diving accident. Scott is a full-time student studying political science. When he graduates he plans to advocate for greater accessibility and to get involved in local politics. He shares his experience with dating in a town of 30 thousand people and a public transit system that stops at 6:00 pm. He takes Tory and his dog Winston for a walk along the shore of Lake Simcoe, one of his favourite spots. [*watch to the end for Winston’s cameo!]

Scott’s experience with online dating as an adult has all been post-injury. He describes it as “inherently shallow,” because the profile picture presents a person’s injury-related baggage before you have a chance to meet each other. His advice for others in the same situation is to be kind to yourself, because being okay with yourself after your injury is the single most important thing.
